ZEUS v0.10 open alpha
Help us test the next major release of ZEUS
Today we're announcing the start of alpha testing of our next major release, ZEUS v0.10. These alpha builds aren't feature complete; we'll be rolling out more functionality as the program goes on. Things may be a little rough around the edges, but we simply couldn't wait to put what we have ready into our more adventurous users' hands.
And yes, testing is open to everyone.
New functionality so far
Channel renewals
Let's start with the big one. Users will now be able to renew and extend their channel leases from both of our channel services. Additionally, users who open channels to our LSP using their own on-chain funds can upgrade to their channels to guarantee their lifetime, and save a bit fees. Boom.
Notifications for renewals should be coming soon too.
Developer Tools
We've added a new Developer section under our Tools menu that allows developers to test out the APIs call for their selected wallet and see raw response. We hope to extend the functionality on this page and flesh out the list of calls you can make.
chantools
chantools is a CLI tool for recovering funds from Lightning channel when a user has unfortunately lost their channel state data.
In ZEUS v0.10, we've built in the sometimes needed sweepremoteclosed command, which we've found to be invaluable when users have sync issues or have lost their channel backups.
We expect a few more chantools commands to be added over time.
Nostr Wallet Connect
We've added Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) as a connection method, allowing you to easily connect to wallets from Alby Hub, Cashu.me, and others.
Note that this is only for accessing NWC wallets within ZEUS (client-side). Ability to access the default built-in ZEUS wallet through other interfaces (server-side) will come in a future release.
How to get started
Android
Android releases will be released via GitHub. Android users may want to look into using the Obtanium app to automate the release of these GitHub download and receive notifications when new releases are made available.
iOS
iOS beta testers may be familiar with TestFlight. We've set up a new open alpha TestFlight group. Users that are currently in the beta TestFlight have to leave that group in the TestFlight app before joining the alpha group. Do not uninstall the ZEUS app itself.
A note on channel renewals for remote users
Channel renewals are supported for all LND users: those who use ZEUS' built-in wallet and those who connect to remote LND nodes.
The built-in wallet is configured by default to work with the channel renewal protocol, however, remote users need to either build LND with the dev tag or add the following to their config:

We are working to submit a code change that makes this configuration unnecessary in future releases of LND.
Updates and feedback
As stated in our intro, more functionality will be rolling out in the alpha program over time. Keep your eyes peeled for updates, which should be released with a frequent cadence.
